We recently held our Cumbrian Way coaching conference to help develop club and pathway coaches in our area.
We had 18 coaches attend the session to learn from special guest coaches we invited along to run workshops dedicated to batting, bowling and fielding coaching.
After a welcome talk and complimentary breakfast, the conference opened with Sedbergh School’s Director of Cricket James Anyon giving tips on how to help players unlock extra pace.
This was then followed by a a fielding workshop with Lancashire CCC’s Head of Talent Pathway, Chris Benbow, who gave insight on how Lancashire players work on fielding, particularly in regards to ground fielding with intensity.
Following a lunch break, Australian overseas player Daniel Salpietro guided the participants on how to construct an innings, and emphasised the importance of experiencing failure for young batters.
To conclude the day, Cumbria Cricket’s Head of Performance David Fallows and former Cumberland Rep Team player Richard Ellwood led a session on spin bowling with two local young spinners.
Commenting on a successful day, David Fallows said: “It was fantastic to have coaches on different stages of their coaching career join us for this unique workshop. The external expertise we were able to bring to the event added a different perspective for everyone, and they will be able to take a new set of skills back to their clubs and pathway players.”
