National Inclusion Week – Dan Hopkins

National Inclusion Week – Dan Hopkins

As part of National Inclusion Week, we’ve spoken to Dan Hopkins, a volunteer on our Inclusion programmes.

Dan, who has Cerebral Palsy, has been working and volunteering in our inclusive cricket sessions, helping organise sessions in schools and running competitions.

We asked Dan about his love of the game and how it has helped him.

“I was inspired to get into running the sessions after taking part in the competitions and sessions myself when I was at school,” Dan said.

“I love running the sessions and knowing that they can continue for other young people, hopefully inspiring them.”

“Running the sessions has helped boost my confidence and kept me physically active where I may not have been, and it’s great to see how much the pupils enjoy and get out of the sessions. At first they can be quite shy and struggle joining in, however they always leave with a smile having had a blast, and this is what I enjoy most about the sessions, seeing people change a grow a love for cricket.”

“Keeping these sessions going and providing everyone a chance to try cricket is pivitol in order to keep cricket as an inclusive sport.”

GET INVOLVED

Looking to get involved?

We run Inclusive Cricket in and out of school settings in the following formats:

Super 1s

We support FREE Super 1s sessions in Barrow, Carlisle, Kendal and Penrith, and are always looking to expand are offering across the region.

Everyone is welcome at these sessions, and we particularly welcome those on the SEND register in a school/ educational setting.

You do not need to register or have any cricket experience to come along and enjoy the sessions!

In addition to enjoying cricket-based activity sessions, Super 1s is an opportunity for young people to develop skills away from the game.

Table Cricket

Cumbria Cricket is proud to support the Lord’s Taverners Table Cricket promotion.

Table Cricket is delivering a legacy in schools across the UK, providing thousands of disabled young people the chance.

With the help of HP Activities and backed by Lord’s Taverners, we run Table Cricket programmes in schools across Cumbria.
