We are proud to announce the winners of the Cricket Collective Awards for the Cumbria region after a record number of nominations.
We had a fantastic day at Durham CCC celebrating the winners’ successes and achievements. It was also fantastic to have ECB Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Ernie Brabbins with us to present the awards.
We would like to thank our partners at Durham CCC for their hospitality as well as our friends at Active Cumbria for their support.

Coach of the Year
Ally Howard-Carter (Stainton CC)
Ally goes above and beyond to coach all levels, all abilities, and is always on hand wherever he is needed. His excellent coaching techniques ensure everyone has a pathway.
David Bellas (Temple Sowerby CC)
David has helped transform the club since he joined. He has helped expand the junior and women’s section and will do anything to move the club forward.
Young Coach of the Year
Bertie Medhurst (Netherfield CC)
Bert is central to Netherfield’s All Stars on Friday nights, and his knowledge and personality have earned him many friends – juniors and parents alike.
The Metro Bank Champion of Girls’ Cricket
Meg Lewis (Sedgwick CC)
From minimal female cricket, Meg has ensured Sedwick CC now have a large contingent with a wide age range thanks to her brilliant encouragement and coaching.

Emma Thompson (Workington CC)
Emma is an inspiration to anyone who has the fortune to meet her. Emma has dedicated her life to tackling inequalities and ensuring everyone can access sport and activities by bringing partners together to increase the scale of those opportunities.

Christopher Hodgson (Wigton CC)
Chris is always going above and beyond with his coaching and always ensures everyone is having a fantastic time no matter the outcome.
Rising Star
Ava de Vaal (Keswick CC)
Ava has had a rapid rise on the field in the last year, but has also made significant contributions off it. She is a great role model for all the young players at the club.
Unsung Hero
Stuart Akister (Cartmel CC)
Stuart is the ultimate supporter who gets on with jobs around the club without asking for anything in return.
From helping run the bar and setting up, to ordering in food from the butcher for the BBQ, he is integral to Cartmel CC.
Growing the Game
Jon Gibson (Cockermouth CC)
Jon is a legend at Cockermouth CC. His passion have inspired young people across the county (including a certain Ben Stokes) to reach their potential. He is always there to encourage young people and their parents to fall in love with the game.
Volunteer Grounds Management Team of the Year
Howard Carpenter (Whitehaven CC)

Howard and his team (Ramos, Leo and Scott) have transformed the ground at Whitehaven CC to one of the best in the county. His team put in many hours to the pitch and have ensured they reach out for expert advice to ensure they can keep improving it.
Lifetime Achiever
John Bryson (Keswick CC)
John, along with his wife Judith, have been part of Keswick CC for many years. Despite taking a step back from duties after many years of service, he is still an integral part of the club and driving it to success.
Tackling Climate Change
Steve Wilson (Netherfield CC)
Steve has taken the lead on ensuring Netherfield CC is helping the environment. His efforts in installing 100 solar panels on the roof have helped the club become more self sufficient.
