Girl Guides and Brownies get taste of cricket

As part of a pilot scheme to get more girls into cricket, we have been delivering taster sessions to Girl Guides and Brownies across Cumbria.

We have delivered to six groups in total in Windermere, Ambleside, Hawkshead and Staveley, with unit leaders recognising the fun the girls had during the sessions:

"Thank you so much for this evenings cricket session. The girls really enjoyed it. It was great to see them looking so engaged"

The sessions were delivered by Cumbria Cricket Women’s and Girls’ Development Officer, Meg Lewis, who said: “It’s fantastic to see so many of the girls excited about giving cricket a go and we’re working hard to continue offering more opportunities like this as we head into 2026.”

Cricket is a great, and often new, game for young people to try sport, and we are always looking for opportunities to deliver sessions and showing how cricket is a game for all.
