Let’s Talk Inclusion at Cumbria Cricket Ltd

Staff and directors of Cumbria Cricket enhanced their education and understanding of the ever-evolving subject of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) on 30 October, thanks to an insightful day of learning delivered by Jiten Patel.

As a leading voice in Conscious Inclusion, Jiten possesses over two decades of experiences within the EDI field. An award-winning EDI strategist and Director/EDI Lead at Cricket East, Jiten has played a key role in embedding inclusive practices across the organisation.

Cumbria Cricket, eager to understand ways in which our organisation can ensure these practices are embedded, underwent two workshops as part of the day. The first explored unconscious bias and how we can move towards conscious inclusion, while the second focused on navigating the grey areas of banter, language, and microaggressions.

Jiten’s approach focuses on transforming organisations from simply being diverse to becoming high-performing, inclusive environments, where everyone feels they belong.

Delivered as a facilitated discussion which is designed to build confidence, challenge assumptions, and offer practical ways to foster a culture where everyone feels valued, all associated with Cumbria Cricket in attendance learned a vast amount.

Through Jiten’s workshop, Cumbria Cricket’s staff and directors came away with a deeper understanding of inclusion in action, in addition to being able to create practical strategies for creating safe, welcoming spaces.

Bob Simpson, Managing Director of Cumbria Cricket, said: “Jiten’s approach to educating people on key topics within EDI is absolutely first class, and the insight and understanding it provided us all was invaluable. Through the workshop, we feel confident of being equipped with tools that allow us to address bias and handle difficult conversations, in addition to possessing some excellent examples which can help us strengthen Cumbria Cricket and our clubs’ ability to create welcoming environments for all.”
