We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Meg Lewis as Cumbria Cricket’s Women & Girls Development Officer.
The appointment comes as part of Cumbria Cricket Ltd’s commitment to providing playing, volunteering and coaching opportunities for everyone in Cumbria so they can say ‘cricket is a game for me’.
The appointment of Meg Lewis as our Women & Girls Development Officer will provide greater support to clubs for women and girls both on and off the field.
Meg’s role, which will see her work 24 hours a week, will be focussed on increasing the number of girls’ teams and sections in clubs, which will help feed more participants into the adult women’s game.
Whilst we are proud to have 16 women’s sections and 9 girls’ sections in clubs across Cumbria, we are eager to build on this and demonstrate just how inclusive our game can be.

Following her appointment, Meg said: “Watching the growth of the women’s and girls’ game over recent years has been really exciting and I feel privileged to be stepping into a role that involves fostering a new generation of female cricketers across the county. From playing junior cricket at Sedgwick, to representing Cumbria for a number of years, and now running Sedgwick’s women’s team, cricket is a love that has never dwindled. Having experienced first hand the positive impact that cricket can have, I am passionate about encouraging more girls to get involved in the sport. As we look ahead to 2026 and the Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales, this really is an exciting time for the development and growth of the girls’ game. It is my desire to provide more inclusive opportunities across the county for our girls, so that they can all confidently say that cricket is a game for me.”
Cumbria Cricket Managing Director, Bob Simpson, added: “We had a large number of outstanding applications for the role, which shows the passion to grow women and girls’ cricket in the region.
“Meg is the perfect fit to grow the female game and push our ambition to be the most inclusive team sport in England, and we cannot wait to see what she can deliver in her role.”
