Background and Role Description
Salary – Voluntary (Expenses where agreed).
Time – Monthly meeting with County Safeguarding Officer and Safeguarding Board Lead + case and project work as required.
Background – Cumbria Cricket Ltd (CCL) are looking to recruit a Deputy Safeguarding Officer to provide support to our current County Safeguarding Officer (CoSO).
CCL are committed to providing any necessary and relevant training to the individual to ensure they are equipped to perform this role.
The Deputy County Safeguarding Officer will work closely with the County Safeguarding Officer (CoSO) and in the absence of the CoSO will act as the first point of contact for all safeguarding matters within CCL.
Requirements for the Role – Applicant would need to complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Police Check (DBS) before taking up the post and complete some training from the ECB as it is organised.

The County Safeguarding Officer and Deputy County Safeguarding Officer act as a source of advice and support on Child and Adult Safeguarding matters to Cumbria County Cricket Club, all County Age Group squads & all affiliated clubs within Cumbria and supports the education and training of County Club members and those of affiliated clubs.
They provide an important link between the ECB Safeguarding Team and the club game, disseminating information in the County, and providing vital local knowledge and support in managing and investigating incidents and concerns. They will represent the ECB locally in relevant safeguarding settings and attend relevant meetings.
Core Knowledge and Understanding:
Essential:
- A good knowledge and understanding of Child and Adult at Risk Safeguarding policies and procedures including how this fits within a safeguarding role in cricket.
- An understanding of the different forms of behaviour that can occur within and outside sport which are harmful to children, from poor practice to child abuse.
- An understanding of the potential emotional impact of an incident or allegation upon all concerned.
Desirable:
- Good understanding of cricket.
- Experience in training adults, perhaps through coaching or other work.
Core Tasks:
- To act as the County’s point of contact in Cricket for Child and Adult Safeguarding matters.
- To act as the ECB’s point of contact for Child and Adult Safeguarding matters, supporting the County Club, League/Club Safeguarding Officers, clubs and others to understand and be able to carry out their safeguarding responsibilities.
- To help safeguard young people by assisting in the promotion and implementation of the ECB Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children and the related complaints and disciplinary actions.
- To support the education and training of others in cricket at a county and club level in respect of Child Safeguarding, including attendance at all ‘Safe Hands’ courses.
- To provide Child and Adult Safeguarding advice and support to League/Club Safeguarding Officers.
- To support League and Club Safeguarding Officers throughout the process of a referral and investigation and to make recommendations of support to others in the club as appropriate.
- To refer serious or complex safeguarding concerns to the ECB Safeguarding Team.
- To look into and manage local issues as agreed with the ECB Safeguarding Team.
Core Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to administer, organise and plan administrative procedures.
- Ability to record information received in a relevant, legal and confidential manner.
- Ability to advise Club Safeguarding Officers on recording information appropriately.
- Ability to act as a local source of advice on Child and Adult Safeguarding matters.
- Ability to promote the interests of children within cricket, including helping clubs and Club Safeguarding Officers to seek children’s views.
